Networking
Make the most of your IT resources
We offer a comprehensive set of network solutions for the home and home
office, enabling you to get the most from your computing equipment.
Our network solutions cover the planning and installation including
the provision of all equipment, cabling and any necessary software configuration.
If cabling is a problem, then consider wireless networks to connect
your kit together.
Why network PC's ?
Connecting your PCs via a network enables you to share your IT resources
between all the PCs on the network.
- Data files: store important data on more than 1
PC for security. Share these files between all PCs on the network
- Multimedia files: store your music and video files
on 1 PC and access from all others. Connect your PC to your main Hi-Fi
or TV and play music and video around the house.
- Printers: connect more than 1 PC to your printer
so that the kids can print their homework and you can print your bank
statement.
- Internet connections: share your Internet connection,
either dial-up or Broadband, between several PCs. All PCs can browse,
chat and email at the same time - no more queuing up to get on to the
internet. If you have Broadband then you can all surf and still use
the telephone for voice calls.
- Multiplayer games: play across the network between
2 or more PCs to enhance the gaming experience. Playing against friends
and family is much more rewarding than playing against the computer
- especially when you win!
Wired or Wireless ?
Is it best to have a wired network or a wireless one? There is no hard
and fast rule on this one and sometimes it is best to have a bit of
both. Using cable to connect your PCs provides a faster connection with
speeds of 100Mbits/s being common these days – new PCs will not
be less than this. The latest wireless connections are currently around
54Mbits/s although the much slower 11Mbits/s standard is still very
common. These speeds are fine for general office type activities but
will start to suffer if multimedia files are transferred or serious
gaming is required. Our advice is to cable wherever practicable and
use wireless where it is not. For example, you cable between your main
PC with the Internet connection and the kid’s PC in their bedroom
whilst providing a wireless connection to operate your laptop from the
kitchen, conservatory or garden!
